Escape Your Life

Ask any science fiction fan what LEXX was about and you will get a different answer each time. This was probably due in part because this series was not shown in its entirety or the episodes not always shown in order. At least not in the US. Because the show was not created in the US or for US audiences in particular, this show contained a little too much nudity and sexual imagery than US networks were comfortable with. As a result most viewers could not connect with it, could not get a feel for what it was about.

The brainchild of Paul Donovan, LEXX starts out in a place farthest from the Earth than any other show has taken us. It starts out in a completely different universe, in a parallel universe to ours called the "Light Universe". Earth on the other hand is located in the "Dark Zone", a universe of depravity and evil. Unlike any other science fiction series US audiences were used to, the characters of LEXX were anything but polished by-the-book military schooled space explorers. On the contrary, they were a very colorful group of victims of a vast and dark interplanetary organization called the League of 20,000 planets. A society where the state is everything and the individual is nothing. A place where the human race has been defeated by the power of order. A place where people are raised in a box from infancy with no human contact other than virtual parents. A place where everyone wants to escape. As the character Xev exclaims early on in the show, "Oh please, put me out of my misery......I don't want to live this terrible life anymore". This is exactly what LEXX is about and what LEXX is, great  escapism.

Aboard the spaceship LEXX, the characters of this story escape the League of 20,000 planets, escape their terrible lives, escape eventually to another universe in search of a better place. LEXX the series will take you to a place far from your life and is certainly an enjoyable ride worth taking.
